During the half dozen years following the 1967 War a precarious stalemate developed. Israel grimly held on to her gains, as the Arabs refused to negotiate and guerrilla activity escalated. As long as the pot merely simmered there was little real concern in the West. But the Soviet Union was pouring in sophisticated arms by the thousands, accompanied by expert technicians. And, inevitably, the pot boiler over.
